NYSPT IN PERSON SUMMER PROGRAM 2024

Our summer program is located in New Paltz, NY, the birthplace of Playback Theatre--a quaint, lively college town nestled next to the Shawangunk mountain range 90 miles north of New York City. You can reach New Paltz by car, bus, or train (see travel info below). In addition to learning and practicing Playback together, there will be opportunities for hiking, biking, swimming in mountain lakes and waterfalls, and visiting local artisan shops and restaurants.

This year's venue is Boughton Place, located about a few miles from the center of New Paltz (150 Kisor Rd, Highland, NY 12528). Boughton Place is the home of Psychodrama training in North America and features the original J.L. Moreno stage. There are a limited number of rooms for students to stay in, a full kitchen, and landscaped grounds to enjoy on breaks. The cost for rooms begins at $65/night.  Prices may vary and should be confirmed with Boughton Place directly.

To book a room at Boughton Place, contact Lexi Langley, the Office/Theatre Manager, at boughtonplace@gmail.com or go here on-line registration form.

*Boughton Place is located about 4 miles from New Paltz (shops, restaurants, grocery store), so you need a car or taxi to get into town. Students often share rides.

For other accommodations in the town of New Paltz, see below.

TRAVEL TO NEW PALTZ:

Bus from NYC

The Trailways Bus (click here for schedule) departs from Port Authority in NYC several times a day. The trip is about an hour and a half without traffic.

NOTE: You get off the bus in town at the New Paltz Bus Station (not the Park-n-ride stop).

Train from NYC

There is a Metro-North train (Hudson line) from Grand Central Station, NYC, to Poughkeepsie station several times a day. Poughkeepsie is about 15 minutes from Highland/New Paltz, across the Hudson River. You would need to take a taxi to the venue from the train station (or Uber or Lyft). The trip from Grand Central Station to Poughkeepsie is about two hours.

Airplane

STEWART/NEWBURGH AIRPORT is 40 minutes south of New Paltz. Car service is available to New Paltz from the airport. You can try Visconti Limousine from Stewart Airport (845.562.5671) or Uber.

ALBANY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT is 1 hour 30 minutes North of the New Paltz. Car rental, car service, and bus service (Trailways bus) are available from the airport.

You can also fly into the NYC airports (JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark) and take a bus from Port Authority in Manhattan up to New Paltz (follow Bus instructions).

FOOD

Students are responsible for their own food and lodging. There are many restaurants and delis located in New Paltz and surrounding towns. There is a kitchen at Boughton Place where students can make tea and coffee, as well as a fridge and microwave for storing and heating up or making lunch.
